Here at Highfields Farm, we are lucky to have facilities to stable or turn out horses to grass. We also have a large (50mx20m) sand arena, which may also be used when staying at Highfields Farm Bed and Breakfast.

Dressage and Jumping lessons

Jennifer is a qualified instructor, and can give lessons for Dressage, Flatwork, or Jumping, please phone(01889 505000) or email Jennifer to arrange lessons.
There are many horse riding centres in the area, allowing you to hire horses to ride whilst in the area. Cannock Chase, has some particularly nice riding areas.

Peak District National Park

Staffordshire is right on the edge of the peak district, and Highfields Farm is less than a 20minute drive away. The Manifold Valley, and Dove Dale, provide some of the most beautiful walks, through the area. But there are many other wonderful routes, and ideas requested, as well as some maps, available with a small deposit, please ask.

Climbing - the Roaches

The Roaches is a 35minute drive from Highfields Farm. This consists of four grit stone crags, with climbing for all abilities. Books detailing the routes on the Roaches are available for reading at Highfields Farm.

Kayaking

River Trent or Trent & Mersey Canal
The River Trent and Trent & Mersey Canal run through Stone, which is a 5 minute drive from Highfields Farm. At Stone there is a slalom course, at the home of Stafford and Stone Canoe Club, the 2004 and 2005, British Club Championship Winners.

Kayaking Instruction:
Phil is a qualified Slalom Kayak coach and instructor. Small Kayaking trips and lessons are available on both the river and canal. Canoe Safety Kit and Basic Equipment is provided. Please phone ahead to arrange and check availability.

Canoeing and Climbing

Phil is an experienced canoeist and enjoys climbing so if you are interested on how to start or would like a companion to canoe or climb with, please do make contact before you come so we can make sure of our time. We will try to field all enquiries or find out the information for you.

Highfields Farm is very lucky to be so close in distance to so many attractions.

Top theme park, Alton Towers, has just opened a new ride, 'Rita-Queen of Speed' 0-100kmph in just 2.8seconds, be sure to check it out, along with Air, Nemesis, Oblivion, and many other great rides. Ranging form farm shows to dog trials, antique & craft fairs to motor shows, there is always a lot to see and do at Staffordshire County Showground, less than a 15min drive for Highfields Farm B&B.

The Wedgwood Museum

The Wedgwood Museum contains the world's greatest collection of Wedgwood ceramics, ranging from a unique collection of Josiah Wedgwood’s original trials for the perfection of Queen's Ware, later delivered in the form of a 900+ piece dinner service to Catherine the Great of Russia in 1774, to a rare 5 foot high Exhibition Vase, decorated by Emile Lessore, the only one of its kind in Britain.

Cheddleton Flint Mill

Cheddleton Flint Mill is a fine example of a water mill that ground flint for the pottery industry. The site features two water mills, a small museum, a period cottage, traditional narrow-boat and many other exhibits.
